Karla Black

I feel Karla Black’s work relates to Dale’s work in a sense that her work mutates and changes as it moves to different shows.  Her work is reinstalled when it moves to another location which allows the work to evolve and respond particularly to the space it is in.

Her work combines delicate materials such as cling film, sellotape, polythene and glass with pleasant aromas for example, moisturising creams, lip gloss, bath cream and hair conditioner. Without the pleasant smells I feel her work provide a fairly uncomfortable atmosphere as it reminds me of layers of flesh and skin. Therefore, this suggests the importance of being able to view the work directly rather than over a computer screen or from a book, as you do not get the full experience of smells and visuals.
